Hellshire beach in Jamaica
When visitors go to the resort town of Kingston there is one very popular spot, that’s Hellshire beach Jamaica, it is not usually for the those that don’t like good fish and food. But if you are interested, there are places where you can get that Jamaican experience.

Hellshire Beach is located in the Portmore area and is another favorite spot on a Sunday. This was originally a fishing area with no facilities, but it now offers good swimming, food and entertainment. This is a convenient location for the residents in the city and surrounding areas and is usually jam packed on the weekends and on holidays.
There is no admission for the public section as that is open to everyone; this area would be mostly crowded. But there is a paying section with life guards, buoyed swimming area, shower and changing room facilities and numerous food stands.
This is one of the famous spot on the island for the fried fish and festival; you can get other authentic dishes also. The area has many trees which offer shade while you sit at the many benches and tables to enjoy your meal.
You will find a lot of fisherman plying their trade, if you want you could purchase some of the wonderful catches for the day; fresh from the waters.
If you travel to the outskirts of the city, you find these lovely spots:
Lime Cay is located on a small island that can be found on the environs of the Kingston harbor. This is about fifteen minutes on a short boat ride from the Morgan’s Harbor at Port Royal. This is the closest spot that you will find near the city and it has one most beautiful beach that is on the island.
This is a popular place for locals as these waters are unpolluted and offers some good swimming and snorkeling. If you are in the city on a Sunday and is looking for the perfect getaway, this is the hot spot for a cookout or picnic; just bring your food and refreshments and have a good time.
During the week this area is very secluded, you can enjoy the experience in the nude. However, on weekends it is a different atmosphere as the beach is packed with entertainment, food and fun galore.
Just visiting the cays is an adventure in itself and there are many activities to keep you occupied all day. Trips can be arranged for boat or shuttle ride, check at the Morgan’s Harbor Marina; this is also close to the Norman Manley International Airport.
If you venture southwest from the city, there are black sand beaches that await you. Here are some of the favorites:
Fort Clarence Beach is also located in the Hellshire community of Portmore and is an excellent spot to hang out with the locals. This place was called a fort because it was one of the places that prevented invaders to the Kingston harbor in the earlier years. This spot is another favorite for Sunday and holiday visits from the city folks and persons on the South Coast.
This area might not be buzzing like other places that you will find in other resort town, but it has enticing waters with dazzling black sand. There are numerous activities available that you can enjoy such as swimming, fishing, snorkeling and Jet Ski rides.
You will find numerous beach stalls where you can sample some of the Jamaican delights such as conch dishes, steam fish, pumpkin soup, jerk chicken and the popular fish and festival. This is where many of the persons in this area claim to have started making this festival; you will find that it is one their specialty.
This is also a popular venue for dancehall and reggae concerts and if you feel like spending a long weekend, there are accommodations available in the surrounding areas.
The Gunboat Beach is located near the Portmore area also and offers some good swimming. This is another popular hang out spots that is always buzzing with entertainment and numerous food vendors. This is another favorite for the weekend and holidays with people spending all day and night sometimes.
So there you have it, Kingston has a lot more to offer than what is in this city and you will not miss the Jamaican beach experience while staying in this resort town.
